Would you propose at this murder hotel in the mountains?

I received this text asking if I photograph wedding proposals, my eyes lit up and said, "I sure do." He said we are coming out from NY to Estes Park and staying at The Stanley and have no idea what to do. "Don't you worry! I got chu." The next hour we continued to text location ideas and to get to know their relationship some more. Now I know The Stanley hotel is beautiful and historic but generally either they just like history or they are big horror and fans of The Shining in particular. They happen to be both. Yay! Me too.

After having a better coversation via video call later so Gabby wouldn't know, we hatched a plan and a backup plan for the day depending on the weather. Of course Bobby had a giant martian standup in his office from Tim Burton's "Mars Attacks."

For those of you who do not know and are living under a rock, The Stanley Hotel was the inspiration for Stephen King to write The Shining. Both are big film and horror fans so of course he had to propose on the lawn of The Stanley.

After a few portraits and the reveal that Bobby hired me to capture it we had to hit the hedge maze for a few shots before going up in to the mountains for some fun. While we were up there the wind got really crazy and was blowing snow around. Luckily these two laughed it off and we had a great time.

  • Photographer/videographer: Book someone discreet if you want a surprise.
  • Ask a friend: Or set up a hidden camera if it’s just the two of you.
• Personal Touches
  • Involve pets, family, or kids (if applicable).
  • Add surprises: A love letter, music, or a celebration afterward.
• Timing
  • Pick the right day: Avoid high-stress times or important dates unless intentional.
  • Keep it a surprise: Be low-key in your planning and excuses for the day.
