Continuing on Bethany and JT's Costa Rican honeymoon we traveled down to the Parque Nacional Marino las Baulas its a large wildlife reserve and beach just north of Tamarindo. Here, the Leatherhead sea turtles come ashore into the mangroves and the beach to bury their eggs for the year. This happens between October and March. And while we were just a little outside that season you could still see very clearly the areas they go. It was funny, I was trying to take some photos of JT checking out the mangroves and he said he didn't feel great about it as it was giving off major Crocodile vibes.... and it was. Hahaha.
We continued on across some super rocky beach to find the black sand beach. The beach was created from all the black rock formations in this cove and it just getting pummeled by the ocean. It began to rain a little so we headed back and stopped and this really cool place called Pots and Bowls for lunch before waiting out another massive rainstorm. It was generally the schedule of the day. Sun's out, have some fun. Afternoon comes and brace yourself for about 45 minutes to an hour of massive rain. Then on to the cool evening.
Here is a bit of info about the park. Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas, located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica in the Guanacaste province, is a protected marine and coastal area known for its incredible biodiversity and its role in the conservation of leatherback sea turtles (Dermochelys coriacea). The park covers over 10,000 hectares of land and ocean, including beaches, estuaries, and mangrove swamps, which provide vital nesting sites for these endangered turtles. Every year, between October and March, leatherbacks return to the park's beaches to lay their eggs, making it one of the most important nesting sites for this species in the world. In addition to its turtle conservation efforts, the park is home to a variety of wildlife, including monkeys, birds, and marine species, as well as offering opportunities for eco-tourism and sustainable activities like kayaking, hiking, and guided turtle watching tours. The park's rich ecosystems are also vital for scientific research and education about marine conservation and the importance of protecting coastal habitats.
