I love this state, but I really love Colorado in the fall. The weather is perfect with a tinge of cool and the yellow and gold trees are gorgeous. If you're wanting Colorado engagement photos I definitely suggest 1, the mountains and 2, in the fall. Now don't get me wrong there are exceptions. One being the season you do your photos in largely depends on the location and whats best for that spot and the location is always best to pick a spot that means something to you.
For these two they really love this stretch of highway in the mountains that cuts through some really great little valleys and small towns. I said perfect, lets do that. I also have some favorite spots there too.
I love allowing for exploration and wandering during my sessions. I am kind of "wing-it" guy but also need to have a main location. I don't like to structure things to a "t." When you do that it doesn't allow for your couple to be who there are and frankly have much fun. It kind of turns into a job for the couple. Like they are working for you and that simply isn't the case nor the goal. I am there to capture who you are together and preserve a bit of character of you you two are before getting married and your lives take off.
By doing these things we have a great time and find some interesting things. The first was while walking on the trail I could hear a waterfall. It didn't sound huge, but also not too far. Time to wander! I am so glad we did. After cutting through the trees we found the creek and the tiny falls but also this really look rock ledge. I wish I knew more about geology to describe it better but it was really interesting with the flat large slabs just reaching out along the creekside. In my quest for getting the right shot and variety I had to do some careful dancing on rocks placed in the creek to get mid-water and create that dynamic view. Kinda hard when you have two cameras dangling at your sides and trying to be careful not to dip them in to the water. They generally don't work well after a swim.
There is a few photos when we walked into the giant marshy meadow with some really gorgeous fall orange leaves on the bushes and after taking several photos we discovered there was a giant moose in the background. I had no idea at the time. I love fun stuff like that. No moose selfies, that's just a bad bad bad idea.
This engagement session finished out pretty perfect as the weather was so nice and then a sunset(ish) rolled in for a bit before taking a nasty turn and starting to get super dark and rain. Which worked out as we had our fun and got some really nice photographs prior.
I am available for all of Colorado and destination weddings, elopements, and engagements. I love to wander.
