Sunrise Hike Elopement Wedding at Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park
Star Wars Lightsabers, Mountain Silence, and a Sunrise Worth the Early Alarm
There’s something extra special about hiking in the dark before the rest of the world wakes up—especially when you’re doing it for your wedding day. This sunrise hike elopement to Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park was equal parts peaceful, adventurous, and unapologetically fun.
The couple are GIANT Star Wars fans, so naturally, a lightsaber battle at the top of the trail was non-negotiable. Under the stars and headlamps, near the Dream Lake Trail, they battled it out in the dark—an unforgettable and wildly unique way to kick off an elopement wedding.
Dream Lake is reached via a very well-defined trail created and maintained by the park. It’s popular and accessible, which means you’re not roughing it—but hiking that early in the morning offers a rare kind of quiet. The forest felt still and sacred, and the silence added to the intimacy of the moment.
Getting Ready, Vows, and That Colorado Sunrise
At the top, the couple helped each other get ready—one of my favorite ways to slow down and really take in the moment. They shared a champagne toast, laughed, and then settled into reading the vows they had written for one another.
Just as they finished exchanging vows, the sun peeked through a break in the clouds and showed off that Colorado magic in the best way possible. Soft alpine light spilled across the landscape, and for a moment, it felt like the entire park was theirs.
Eventually, other hikers began to arrive, and I realized just how long we had been completely alone. Afterward, we wandered to a few of my favorite hidden spots, they changed into more comfortable clothes, and we made our way back down the trail. A very fun—and incredibly productive—morning. Even better? It was exactly what they wanted.
