Molly and Cody were planning a unique small destination wedding vacation but wanted to take some portraits before they left. What better place to take their engagement photos than Lookout mountain near Golden Colorado.
What I remember most from this session was that the light was really nice and soft and just would not quit. I shot a wedding nearby in the spring and saw these trees and this open field and couldn't wait to take a couple there. We started out in the pine trees and then moved towards the field and then it was time for some big mountain views, followed by a pretty dramatic sunset.
As with all my locations, I always try and find places with variety. Sure there are some spots that are incredible, but once you get that stereotypical view, you're done. Most of this comes down to research and scouting, but I think I also just have a knack for seeing these little spots and making something of them. The giant rockslide in this session is a great example. I didn't see it before when I was here, but I immediately knew we needed to do something with it and I knew how we could use it.
I am always looking for texture and patterns, whether it's with nature, color, or light.
Nature gives you a lot to work with and I love it.
Aside from some great spots for photos Lookout mountain has many other places to check out.
